<p>Seis anos após a invasão americana, o governo iraquiano criou um feriado nacional, chamado &#8220;Dia da Soberania&#8221;, enquanto as tropas dos EUA começavam a se retirar - a primeira fase de uma retirada completa prevista para ao final de 2011.</p>
<p>Quase 130 mil soldados continuam no Iraque, provendo apoio contínuo até 2011. O Departamento de Defesa americano identificou, até hoje, 4.803 soldados que morreram desde o início da guerra.</p>

<p>Ontem, dia 4 de Junho, foi o 20º aniversário do <a href="http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protesto_na_Pra%C3%A7a_da_Paz_Celestial_em_1989" target="_blank">Protesto na Praça da Paz Celestial</a>, na China. No início de Abril de 1989, milhares de estudantes e cidadãos começaram a se unir em grandes e pequenos grupos, protestando sobre diversos assuntos, mas como tema principal a liberdade e a reforma democrática.</p>
<p>Na metade do mês de Maio de 1989, centenas de milhares de manifestantes ocuparam a praça, pedindo por diálogo. Devido aos protestos e às ordens do governo pedindo o encerramento dos mesmos, se produziu no <strong>Partido Comunista</strong> uma divisão de critérios (opiniões) sobre como se deveria responder aos manifestantes. A decisão tomada foi suprimir os protestos pela força, no lugar de atenderem suas reivindicações. Em 20 de maio, <strong>o governo declarou a lei marcial</strong> e, na noite de 3 de junho, <strong>enviou os tanques e a infantaria do exército à praça de Tiananmen para dissolver o protesto, matando e ferindo centenas de civis</strong>.</p>
<p>As primeiras 17 fotos desta galeria foram tiradas em 1989, e o restante são deste ano.</p>

<p>No dia 9 de maio foi o &#8220;<strong>Dia da Vitória</strong>&#8221; na Rússia e em outros países do &#8220;Leste&#8221;. Com o objetivo de comemorar a derrota da Alemanha nazista 64 anos atrás, em 1945, o Dia da Vitória é um dia de recordação. E, recentemente, para o governo russo, <strong>uma oportunidade para revitalizar as forças armadas da nação e influência global.</strong> Mais de 27 milhões de soviéticos, tanto militares como civis, perderam suas vidas na <strong>Segunda Guerra Mundial</strong>, entre 1941 e 1945. Recolhidos aqui, estão as fotos do recente Dia da Vitória, em Moscou, além de eventos em outros países.</p>

<p>Forças do governo aumentaram a pressão no grupo de rebeldes LTTE, e centenas de milhares de civis do norte do país ficaram presos na zona de guerra. A cobertura da imprensa ainda é muito limitada. Os representantes do LTTE alegam que os civis estão no local por vontade própria, com medo das forças do governo. Por outro lado, o governo  do Sri Lanka afirma que os civis estão sendo mantidos no local contra sua vontade, pelo LTTE. De acordo com as Nações Unidas, mais de 6.500 civis foram mortos, milhares estão feridos e, recentemente, mais de 100.000 refugiados deixaram a fortaleza do LTTE. Com isso, o governo tem evitado o uso de armas de grosso calibre.</p>
